Nine teens have been arrested in connection with the June 24 shooting death of 16-year-old Trey Dean Wright of Johnsonville, South Carolina. The shooting is reported to have been “over a girl.” Florence County Sheriff’s deputies found Wright’s body in a roadway in rural Florence County that day. He had been shot several times.

On June 25, 19-year-old Devan Scott Raper of Conway, South Carolina, was arrested and charged with shooting the victim to death after an argument. Deputies say Raper was one of several teens recorded on video by another person in the days before the shooting. (See video above.)

Further arrests have been made in the weeks since the killing, including the arrest of Wright’s own girlfriend. In all, nine suspects have been arrested in connection with the death. Four are adults, and five are teens who are being tried as adults under a South Carolina state law, according to prosecutors and a county sheriff.

Wright’s mother, Ashley Lindsey, told Fox News Digital that the series of arrests and court proceedings has only added to her sorrow over the loss of her son. “All this court hearing and bond court and stuff is driving me crazy,” she said. “I don’t even have time to sit down and think half the time, on top of losing my precious baby.”

Sheriff: Several Teens Helped Set Up Killing

Sheriff T.J. Joye of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office told reporters that Wright’s girlfriend of one year, 17-year-old Gianna Kistenmacher of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is among the suspects arrested in the killing. Kistenmacher is charged with being an accessory before the fact of murder.

Prosecutors say she and several other teens helped to lure the victim to the site of the shooting, where Raper was waiting. Authorities allege that she knew Raper was armed and intended to kill the victim.

Deputies said Wright was shot to death by Raper “after a confrontation that had been escalating over the course of several days.” The sheriff’s office has not released additional details about the case, citing the ongoing investigation, and prosecutors declined to comment on the facts of the case.

A law enforcement source told Fox News Digital that the teenagers “were complicit in bringing the armed codefendant, Raper, to the incident location and knowing that there would be a confrontation.” The source added, “They knew that Raper had presented a firearm to the victim and made threats to shoot him, according to the arrest warrants.”

One other teen, an 18-year-old male, has been charged directly with murder along with Raper. Two female teens, ages 18 and 17, were charged with accessory before the fact of murder.

Cops Identify Shooter as Victim Escalates Argument

Florence County Sheriff T.J. Joye told a local TV news reporter that Raper shot the teen after the two men were arguing and something “just tipped it over.” “The video that we have has not revealed that much, but it did indicate they were having some type of argument,” the sheriff said. “We have not been able to identify from the video what exactly was argued over.”

Sheriff Joye added that the killing resulted from a disagreement between the two men over a girl. “They had issues with each other, and it was over a female,” the sheriff said. “The sad thing is, you got a 16-year-old that lost his life. You’ve got a 19-year-old who is going to be in jail the rest of his life. Over what?”

Raper is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He remains in jail with no bond. Kendall, the other teen charged with murder, is being held without bond. Belviso and Kearns were each released last week after posting a $20,000 surety bond.

Raper, who is represented by public defenders, is due back in court July 23 for another hearing. Kendall’s next court date is July 22. Kearns is due back July 27, and Belviso will appear the next day.
