Faith and Family: Inside Justin Bieber’s Transformative Year
Justin Bieber is back in the news and sparking more conversation after sharing another confusing yet viral post on social media. This time around, the 31-year-old pop superstar reposted a video on Instagram on Sunday from an episode of Iyanla: Fix My Life, which stars rapper DMX and Iyanla Vanzant. The unedited clip comes from a 2013 episode of the Oprah Winfrey Network series.
In the video, DMX answers Vanzant’s question on whether or not he wants to be a “clean vessel to God” while high on drugs. The rapper, known for not holding back on anything, scoffs at the question: “No weed, no drinking, nothing? Why would I?” Later in the video, the spiritual life coach replies to DMX’s question after he has asked how he can be a better, clearer, and purer vessel for the voice of God. “I think I’m exactly where I need to be with God,” the Grammy Award-winning rapper replies.
Justin Bieber’s L.A.-based cannabis dispensary’s account
Surprisingly, Bieber did not leave any comment on the side of the Instagram video. He did repost it from an L.A.-based cannabis dispensary’s account, Gassy. The post received a plethora of reactions soon after, with fans as well as outlets speculating on whether the post could be considered a public warning from Bieber on drug use. While others were curious about what his intention was for posting the music video from the season five episode of Iyanla: Fix My Life.
With fans and media alike speculating and interpreting Bieber’s post, others say that the photo means a number of things. Some say it’s a confession of the singer’s views on marijuana use, while others say it’s his way of continuing to put out conversation starters that touch on spirituality and autonomy when it comes to sobriety.
As it goes with anything Bieber posts, it’s not out of the ordinary for the pop star to throw a wrench in fans’ and public perceptions about his values. The singer has been an open book when it comes to the transformation of his spirituality and relationship with God over the years. He’s often spoken about his involvement with the Churchome, led by Pastor Judah Smith in his younger years, and the work he’s done since then on his faith in the higher power.
Justin Bieber’s Public Image: Legal Recreational Drug Use and Upcoming Album
Aside from the spiritual nature of this post, the thought of recreational drug use isn’t shocking from the perspective of his recent social media posts, which include images of him and bongs, as well as smoke emanating from an incense pen. A lot of fans were worried about the post, but did you know that? Recreational drug use is completely legal in California. The Golden State is home to Bieber, his wife Hailey Bieber, and their son Jack Bieber.
He may not have confirmed anything regarding drug use or sobriety, but fans do know that he’s in a good place. A rep for Bieber shut down rumors earlier this year about possible drug abuse. A rep for Bieber denied earlier this year that the pop star was partaking in any illegal substances. In a February statement to TMZ, the rep said, “The recurring narrative that Justin is using hard drugs is not true.” They went on to note that the pop star is “in one of the best places in his life,” with his child on the way and with his music career.
As it was noted in his rep’s statement, Bieber underwent a “cleansing” over the last year that entailed clearing out friends, business partnerships, and more who he felt “were no longer on the same page or had moved in a different direction than him.” These feelings from the artist are reflected through his latest and seventh studio album titled Swag.
In a stunning surprise release, Bieber, on July 11, took fans by storm with his latest record titled Swag. The album boasts plenty of hits, as well as dives deep into his journey with self-development, love for his wife Hailey, and fatherhood. The new record also features comedy interludes, as social media personality Druski leads the singer through “therapy sessions” that feature Bieber, laying bare his life and state of mind at the moment.
The comedy skits are balanced with real music, and Swag is the best it could be with the right combination of music and comedy interludes. With the proper mix of seriousness and light-heartedness, it sounds like Bieber has more ahead of him. Swag appears to be exactly what it sounds like; it is Justin Bieber having fun with the music and not being afraid to be himself, which is why he’s had great success.
Fans of Bieber are also asking about a possible tour to go along with the new album. It has been noted that there are potential dates for an Australian trip, but when Rolling Stone reached out to Frontier Touring, a rep for the company said, “We have no information to provide regarding any future tour announcements.” Bieber last attempted a world tour in 2022 with Justice, but the trek was cut short midway through due to the health of singer.
In the meantime, as far as Swag is concerned, he’s going to be in more than a great place this year, and it’s evident in the quality of music and lyrics he’s been putting out. Only time will tell if he comes out with an official press statement as to what the post meant to him. But as of now, without speaking, Bieber’s intent on the Iyanla: Fix My Life post will remain a mystery.
