Carly Pearce, a Grammy-winning country singer and songwriter, has recently addressed the most challenging experience in her life. The Kentucky native, who got divorced from her husband, country singer and songwriter Michael Ray, in July 2020, revealed that she was sure that their marriage would fail the night they got married.

Pearce got together with Michael Ray during the summer of 2019, and after five months of dating, they tied the knot. Both of them announced their engagement on August 30, 2019, and their wedding date was only 60 days away. On November 19, 2019, Carly Pearce became Mrs. Michael Ray. In an interview on Bunnie XO’s podcast “Dumb Blonde,” she shared some details about their relationship. According to Pearce, the chemistry was so strong, yet the connection between them was not real.

She said she and her husband did not have real conversations and that they didn’t really know each other. “We were kind of living this life that wasn’t really reality,” she explained, adding that their love life wasn’t based on something real.

Pearce continued: “I thought he was so cute. I’d heard he’s the nicest guy in the world. I invited him to my No. 1 party for ‘Every Little Thing.’ Looking back on it, it was a hot and heavy lust. It wasn’t love. It was just passionate.”

In other parts of the interview, Carly Pearce claimed that they got married to go the distance. “I got married to go the distance. When I married him, it was for the right reasons,” the “Every Little Thing” singer emphasized.

Pearce Filed for Divorce Against her Husband, Michael Ray, in 2020

Pearce and Ray ended their relationship in 2020, with Pearce filing for divorce in June 2020. The singer shared that she and her now ex-husband separated last July and divorced this past July. However, she would not have known that she would end up filing for divorce if COVID-19 had not happened.

The Emmy Award winner remarked on the COVID-19 situation: “I was like, ‘This was my time. This was my time to be like, ‘You broke up and you told me you wanted a divorce?’ and be able to talk to him face to face. But it gave me so much privacy.”

In addition, the 29-year-old country music star admitted that she felt embarrassed when the split between her and Ray happened in 2020. “I was embarrassed when it happened,” she said. “I was going through that (phase) a lot. … And I had shame around that and was heartbroken.”

Pearce, in the podcast interview, also revealed that she “took her feelings three months” to understand what she was feeling before she made her “sit with it” about her relationship with Ray.

Pearce also noted, “Every man that passed me during that time period was like a dream. You know how men will go to the club and there’s like a million girls there, and they’re like, ‘I only have eyes for you?’ I had eyes for all of them.”

Pearce acknowledged that she, Ray, and “every single person that gets divorced has their story” and noted that “the hardest thing for me” during the time was “the stories other people would tell.”

Pearce also addressed reports claiming her husband had an affair during their marriage. She stated that both of them had a “messy” divorce. “We had a messy divorce, very messy,” Pearce said of the split with her husband.

Bunnie said: “There was a rumor that he was kind of cheating on you, and a lot of people were like, ‘Is this true?’” Pearce did not give a yes or no answer when Bunnie asked about the cheating rumors, but she explained that it was “hard to listen to” because she respected Ray and his family.
